Researchers at Newcastle University in the UK have found and successfully tested a natural alternative for treating heart attack patients. This is a herbal active ingredient extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Astragalus.
The product TA-65® can significantly reduce inflammation without affecting the patient's immune system. The study showed that the dietary supplement can reduce inflammation by up to 62 percent, which sets it apart from conventional anti-inflammatory drugs. While these drugs can improve symptoms after a heart attack, they suppress the immune system and increase the risk of serious infections.
The researchers conducted a controlled pilot study with 90 patients aged 65 and over. Participants received either TA-65® or a placebo. The patients' blood values were measured at the start of the study, after six months and after one year. Those who received TA-65® were less likely to have adverse effects such as fever or new medical problems after the heart attack compared to the placebo group.
The head of the study, Professor Ioakim Spyridopoulos, emphasized that inflammation plays an important role in the formation and progression of coronary plaques, which can trigger a heart attack. At the same time, inflammation is also a risk factor for further complications. TA-65® not only reduces inflammation, but also appears to improve immunity by increasing the patients' immune cells.
The research team is planning further studies to confirm the results on a larger scale and to investigate whether TA-65® can also be effective in other heart diseases.
